What to do When You're Locked Out of Your Car

If you've ever locked yourself out of your car you know what a hassle it can be, even if you have roadside assistance. It always happens at the least opportune time and it's easy to start to panic. But, the best thing you can do is remain calm and follow these tips:

  • The best way to avoid the stress of locking your keys in the car is to prevent it from happening in the first place. Before you get out of your car, make sure your keys are in your hand. Or get a spare key that you can hide outside of your car.
  • You can call roadside assistance to come let you in your car. If you don't have roadside assistance you can call a locksmith. You will be charged by the locksmith service and will have to be able to prove that the car is yours.
  • In an emergency you may have to break the window. Do this as a last resort because you will have to replace the window, which can cost over $100.
